Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis konsep kepemimpinan perempuan dalam &#13;
perspektif Al-Qur’an menurut pemikiran Amina Wadud sekaligus menelaah &#13;
landasan epistemologi yang digunakan dalam penafsirannya. Rumusan masalah &#13;
penelitian meliputi dua hal utama, yaitu: pertama, bagaimana konsep &#13;
kepemimpinan perempuan menurut Amina Wadud; dan kedua, bagaimana landasan &#13;
epistemologi tafsir yang digunakan untuk memahami ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an terkait &#13;
peran perempuan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh urgensi memahami peran &#13;
perempuan dalam kepemimpinan secara egaliter dalam konteks Islam serta &#13;
pentingnya interpretasi Al-Qur’an yang kontekstual dan inklusif. &#13;
Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka dengan pendekatan &#13;
kualitatif. Data diperoleh dari buku, artikel, dan literatur terkait pemikiran Amina &#13;
Wadud, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif analitis. Pendekatan ini &#13;
memungkinkan peneliti menguraikan dan menafsirkan gagasan-gagasan Wadud &#13;
secara sistematis, serta mengidentifikasi keterbatasan sumber yang menjadi fokus &#13;
kritik. Analisis menekankan pada pemahaman teks Al-Qur’an dengan perspektif &#13;
feminis, memperhatikan konteks historis, sosial, dan linguistik, sekaligus &#13;
mempertimbangkan relevansinya bagi wacana kepemimpinan perempuan saat ini. &#13;
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep kepemimpinan perempuan &#13;
menurut Wadud menekankan kesetaraan gender dan tanggung jawab sosial yang &#13;
setara antara laki-laki dan perempuan. Landasan epistemologi yang digunakan &#13;
bersifat hermeneutik-teologis, dengan Al-Qur’an sebagai sumber utama, dan &#13;
menerapkan pendekatan kontekstual, linguistik, serta tematik. Analisis kaidah tafsir &#13;
mengungkapkan bahwa metode Wadud secara umum selaras dengan prinsip tafsir &#13;
klasik, meskipun terdapat keterbatasan, seperti minimnya integrasi hadis, dominasi &#13;
konteks modern, serta subjektivitas agenda feminis. Dengan demikian, pemikiran &#13;
Amina Wadud dapat dikategorikan sebagai feminis Islam hermeneutik-reformis, &#13;
yang menggabungkan inovasi hermeneutik feminis dengan kaidah tafsir klasik, &#13;
sekaligus memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan tafsir kontemporer yang &#13;
lebih egaliter. &#13;

Department of Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and &#13;
Da’wah, State Islamic University Raden Mas Said Surakarta, 2025. &#13;
This study aims to analyze the concept of female leadership in the Qur’an from &#13;
the perspective of Amina Wadud and to examine the epistemological foundations &#13;
she employs in her interpretation. The research focuses on two main questions: first, &#13;
what is Amina Wadud’s concept of female leadership; and second, what &#13;
epistemological approach does she use to interpret Qur’anic verses related to &#13;
women’s roles. This study is motivated by the need to understand women’s &#13;
leadership in an egalitarian context within Islam and the importance of contextual &#13;
and inclusive Qur’anic interpretation. &#13;
The research employs a qualitative library research method. Data were collected &#13;
from books, articles, and other relevant literature on Amina Wadud’s thought and &#13;
analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques. This approach allows the &#13;
researcher to systematically explain and interpret Wadud’s ideas while identifying &#13;
limitations in the sources, which become the focus of critical analysis. The analysis &#13;
emphasizes understanding Qur’anic texts through a feminist lens, taking into &#13;
account historical, social, and linguistic contexts, as well as their relevance to &#13;
contemporary discourse on women’s leadership. &#13;
The findings indicate that Wadud’s concept of female leadership emphasizes &#13;
gender equality and equal social responsibility between men and women. Her &#13;
epistemological approach is hermeneutic-theological, grounded in the Qur’an as the &#13;
primary source, applying contextual, linguistic, and thematic methods. Analysis of &#13;
classical exegesis principles shows that her method generally aligns with traditional &#13;
interpretive guidelines, although limitations exist, including minimal integration of &#13;
hadith, strong emphasis on modern social context, and the subjective influence of &#13;
feminist objectives. Thus, Amina Wadud can be categorized as a hermeneutic&#13;
reformist Islamic feminist, combining innovative feminist hermeneutics with &#13;
classical Qur’anic principles, while significantly contributing to the development &#13;
of contemporary egalitarian exegesis. &#13;
