Penelitian ini berangkat dari peran sentral Muhammadiyah sebagai organisasi &#13;
Islam modernis yang berorientasi pada tajdid (pembaruan), yang diwujudkan melalui &#13;
dua prinsip utama: purifikasi (pemurnian akidah dan ibadah dari praktik non-sunnah) &#13;
dan modernisasi (penyesuaian ajaran Islam dengan konteks zaman kontemporer, &#13;
terutama dalam bidang muamalah). Sebagai wujud komitmen &quot;Kembali pada Al&#13;
Qur’an dan al-Sunnah&quot;, Majelis Tarjih dan Tajdid Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah &#13;
secara kolektif menyusun Tafsir At-Tanwir, yang berfungsi sebagai pedoman resmi dan &#13;
responsif terhadap kompleksitas persoalan umat kekinian. Fokus kajian ini adalah &#13;
untuk menganalisis bagaimana karakter kelembagaan Muhammadiyah tersebut &#13;
diimplementasikan dalam penafsiran Tafsir At-Tanwir terhadap rangkaian ayat QS Al&#13;
Baqarah ayat 142–152, yang secara khusus membahas isu pemindahan kiblat dan &#13;
penegasan identitas masyarakat Islam. &#13;
Penelitian ini merupakan studi skripsi yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan &#13;
implementasi karakter Muhammadiyah dan paradigma penafsiran baru yang &#13;
terkandung dalam karya tafsir kolektif tersebut. Subjek penelitian (data primer) yang &#13;
digunakan adalah Tafsir At-Tanwir Jilid 2 pada penafsiran Surah Al-Baqarah ayat 142&#13;
152. Metode pengumpulan data yang diaplikasikan adalah teknik dokumentasi (studi &#13;
pustaka), yaitu dengan menghimpun dokumen utama, didukung oleh data sekunder &#13;
berupa buku, jurnal, artikel, dan karya ilmiah lainnya yang berkaitan erat dengan kajian &#13;
ini. Pendekatan ini dipilih untuk menganalisis secara mendalam ideologi yang terserap &#13;
dalam produk penafsiran Al-Qur'an. &#13;
Hasil &#13;
penelitian &#13;
menyimpulkan bahwa karakter Muhammadiyah &#13;
terimplementasi dalam Tafsir At-Tanwir, dengan aspek modernisasi yang terlihat &#13;
paling menonjol. Implementasi ini terwujud melalui penafsiran yang menjelaskan &#13;
secara komprehensif mengenai identitas, sistem, struktur sosial, dan sepuluh sifat &#13;
kepribadian masyarakat Islam. Penafsiran ini dinilai penting dan mendesak oleh &#13;
Majelis Tarjih untuk menjawab krisis identitas dan defisit akhlak yang dialami umat &#13;
Islam, yang dianggap tidak teratasi secara memadai oleh tradisi keilmuan lama yang &#13;
fokus pada fikih, kalam, dan tasawuf secara parsial. Selain itu, aspek purifikasi secara &#13;
implisit hadir melalui penekanan konsisten bahwa pengambilan sumber hukum dan &#13;
panduan beragama harus selalu merujuk kembali kepada Al-Qur’an dan Hadits yang &#13;
shahih. Namun, penulis menilai bahwa paradigma penafsiran baru yang benar-benar &#13;
belum ada sebelumnya belum terlihat secara jelas dalam rangkaian ayat ini. &#13;

This research is based on the central role of Muhammadiyah as a modernist &#13;
Islamic organization oriented towards tajdid (renewal), manifested through two main &#13;
principles: purification (purifying beliefs and rituals from non-Sunnah practices) and &#13;
modernization (adapting Islamic teachings to contemporary contexts, especially in &#13;
matters of muamalah or worldly affairs). As a form of commitment to &quot;Returning to &#13;
the Qur'an and al-Sunnah,&quot; the Majelis Tarjih and Tajdid (Council for Islamic Law and &#13;
Renewal) of the Muhammadiyah Central Board collectively compiled Tafsir At&#13;
Tanwir, which serves as an official and responsive guide to the complexity of current &#13;
issues facing the Muslim community. The focus of this study is to analyze how the &#13;
institutional character of Muhammadiyah is implemented in Tafsir At-Tanwir's &#13;
exegesis of the series of verses QS Al-Baqarah verses 142–152, which specifically &#13;
discuss the issue of changing the qibla (direction of prayer) and the affirmation of the &#13;
Muslim community's identity. &#13;
This research is a thesis study aiming to describe the implementation of &#13;
Muhammadiyah's character and the new exegetical paradigm contained within this &#13;
collective commentary work. The research subject (primary data) used is Tafsir At&#13;
Tanwir Volume 2 on the exegesis of Surah Al-Baqarah verses 142-152. The data &#13;
collection method applied is the documentation technique (library research), which &#13;
involves collecting the main document, supported by secondary data such as books, &#13;
journals, articles, and other scientific works closely related to this study. This approach &#13;
was chosen to deeply analyze the ideology embedded in the Qur'anic exegesis product. &#13;
The research concludes that the character of Muhammadiyah is implemented &#13;
in Tafsir At-Tanwir, with the aspect of modernization appearing most prominent. This &#13;
implementation is realized through an exegesis that comprehensively explains the &#13;
identity, system, social structure, and ten characteristics of the Muslim community's &#13;
personality. This interpretation is deemed important and urgent by the Majelis Tarjih &#13;
to address the identity crisis and moral deficit experienced by Muslims, which are &#13;
considered not adequately resolved by old scholarly traditions that focus on fiqh &#13;
(jurisprudence), kalam (theology), and tasawwuf (mysticism) in a piecemeal manner. &#13;
Furthermore, the aspect of purification is implicitly present through the consistent &#13;
emphasis that the source of law and religious guidance must always refer back to the &#13;
Qur'an and Sahih Hadith. However, the author finds that a truly new exegetical &#13;
paradigm that was not previously present is not clearly visible in this series of verses. &#13;
