Film merupakan salah satu alat komunikasi massa untuk menyampaikan pesan terhadap khalayak. Latar belakang dalam penelitian ini dikarenakan masalah utama yang diangkat adalah dampak buruk dari perilaku tidak etis di media sosial, khususnya fenomena  etika bermedia sosial dan penghakiman publik terhadap individu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana penonton Budi Pekerti memahami penggambaran film tersebut tentang etika media sosial.&#13;
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan teori analisis resepsi. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan cara wawancara, observasi, dan juga dokumentasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu melibatkan 11 orang audiens yang telah mengikuti gala premier film pendek pasung. Penelitian ini memahami resepsi dari audiens dengan hasil analisis bahwa pemasungan sebaiknya tidak dilakukan apapun alasannya, dikarenakan menurut responden pemasungan melanggar ham karena tidak memberikan kebebasan individu dalam bersosialisasi.&#13;
Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya variasi pemaknaan di antara informan, yang dikategorikan ke dalam tiga posisi resepsi: hegemoni dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi. Mayoritas informan (tiga orang) berada pada posisi hegemoni dominan, menunjukkan pemahaman yang sejalan dengan pesan film terkait pentingnya etika bermedia sosial, didasari oleh pengalaman dan pengetahuan mereka. Dua informan berada pada posisi negosiasi, menerima sebagian pesan film namun memberikan catatan terkait perkembangan zaman. Sementara itu, dua informan berada pada posisi oposisi, menunjukkan ketidaksetujuan terhadap representasi etika bermedia sosial dalam film yang dianggap tidak relevan atau dilebih-lebihkan. &#13;

Film is one of the mass communication tools to convey messages to the audience. The background of this study is because the main problem raised is the negative impact of unethical behavior on social media, especially the phenomenon of social media ethics and public judgment on individuals. The purpose of this study is to find out how Budi Pekerti viewers understand the film's depiction of social media ethics.&#13;
This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a reception analysis theory approach. Researchers collect data through interviews, observations, and documentation. The subjects in this study involved 11 audience members who had attended the gala premiere of the short film Pasung. This study understands the reception of the audience with the results of the analysis that shackling should not be done for any reason, because according to respondents, shackling violates human rights because it does not provide individual freedom to socialize.&#13;
The results of the analysis showed variations in meaning among informants, which were categorized into three reception positions: dominant hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. The majority of informants (three people) were in the dominant hegemony position, showing an understanding that was in line with the film's message regarding the importance of social media ethics, based on their experience and knowledge. Two informants were in the negotiation position, accepting part of the film's message but providing notes regarding developments in the era. Meanwhile, two informants were in the opposition position, showing disagreement with the representation of social media ethics in the film which was considered irrelevant or exaggerated.&#13;
