Find Lost Items (Living Qur'an Study at Al-Qur’aniyy Mangkuyudan Islamic
Boarding School).
This study examines how Al-Qur’aniyy Mangkuyudan Islamic Boarding
School uses the practice of reading Surah Ad-Dhuha as a tool to locate lost items.
This study aims to depict the ongoing practice of reading Surah Ad-Dhuha to locate
lost items. In addition, this study will analyse the meaning behind the actions of
students who practice reading Surah Ad-Dhuha as a tool for finding lost items.
This type of research is field research. The research is qualitative and
descriptive. The primary data for the study comes from interviews, observations
and documentation. We used purposive sampling to carry out the informant
selection technique. Data were analysed using Max Weber's social action theory.
The results of the study indicate that the practice of reciting Surah Ad-
Dhuha varies. Some students practise it by reading Surah Ad-Dhuha from the first
verse to the end and reading it repeatedly while looking for lost items. Others read
Surah Ad-Dhuha by repeating certain words while looking for lost items. It is
known that the motives and goals of the students in practising Surah Ad-Dhuha are:
first, students know this practice because it has been passed down from generation
to generation by the teachers of the Al-Qur’aniyy Islamic Boarding School and is
practised to find lost items. Second, students practise Surah Ad-Dhuha because of
emotional attachment in the form of boredom, disappointment and resignation when
experiencing loss and then practising Surah Ad-Dhuha, which is believed to provide
a sense of calm to help find lost items. Third, because students have experience in
practising Surah Ad-Dhuha, students feel that this practice is the most effective way
to find lost items. Fourth, it is believed that the virtue of Surah Ad-Dhuha is to find
lost items in certain verses and then practice to help find lost items. The difference
in understanding regarding the meaning and function is manifested in different
actions in the practice of practising Surah Ad-Dhuha. Although some students do
not practice reading Surah Ad-Dhuha, they still present the verses of the Qur'an in
their lives by believing in the concept of sustenance that will not be exchanged, as
stated in Surah Hud verse 6.
